Belle Badagumane family is descended from Jain Ballala rulers of Yerdanadu Aramane. One branch of the Yerdanadu Ballala who were Jains converted to Shaivism and settled in Belle and came to be known as Belle Ballala. The Belle Ballala family has 5 branch houses in Belle and Badagumane is one of them. The 5 houses owned roughly 2000 acres of land collectively in feudal times. The family worships Mahalingeshwara and Suryanarayana of Moodubelle Temple established by their ancestress Bolle Ballalthi along with Pattada Rajan Daiva Kanthar Jumadi and Kunjar Devi as their clan deities.
